I have a fluid leak on my right rear axle and I need to remove to replace a gasket? I have taken the 4 bolts loose that seem to hold the axle in place but the axle is not coming out. Do I need to do something else or is the axle in so tight that I need to use the hammer (sledge) wrench??? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah.. it's on a 1965 Farmall 140.

Dean

Remove the cover on backside of bullgear housing. Then you can remove the bolt that holds axle in. May take some coaxing to get it out though.

Thanks for your help. I thought that rear cover was there for a reason. :-)

Most likely you have to remove the bolt that holds the bull gear to the inner end of the axle and take the bull gear off.
I am not familiar with the 140 but most tractors work that way.
