I was wondering if anyone ever put the swinging drawbar of an H on top of the U shaped drawbar with the strap on the bottom? This way if the strap ever fell off / Broke the U shaped drawbar would still be supporting the swinging drawbar. Just my idea.

The swinging drawbar on my 1945 H is on top of the u-shaped drawbar and has been that way for as long as anyone in my family can remember. No strap or roller is used to keep it in place. This has resulted in a slight downward bend to the sliding drawbar. I recently bought a roller from OEM that I plan on installing (instead of the strap). When I install the roller, I plan on putting the sliding drawbar below the u-shaped drawbar and flipping it over (if that's possible). Maybe 60 years on the bottom will straighten it out.

I'll provide an update in 2064.

just something to think about, When you go downhill with a load pushing you the drawbar will want to lift causing you to loose control and have a big wreck, maybe dead. So it is just as important to hold the drawbar down as it is to hold it up. I'd make sure the bolts and strap are good and leave it where it belongs.

It might not fit. The aftermarket swinging drawbar for my H fits over regular U shaped drawbar. It is bent different than the original.

I wouldn't know, the strap is cheaper to replace than the swinging part of the drawbar. Just watch the wear, and keep the bolts tight, or get a roller. Never tried it, but I would guess that the swinger fits better under the drawbar.
