Take the clutch parts to a local clutch/brake shop. Probably one not too far from you. The local one here will sometimes do the rebuild while you wait, but certainly no longer than a day and it usually costs less than $100 for one of these old Farmall clutches. They will reline the disk, and refurbish the pressure plate with new springs, etc as needed. They usually even have the throwout bearings in stock.

Jon,

I learned this one the hard way. If you are going to work the tractor hard, put in a good clutch.

Those rebuilts are fine if the tractor is just for show and tell; however,if you really load a cheap clutch, you will be doing the job again.

Just my opinion,

Allan

I was going to put a new clutch disc into my SMTA a couple years ago, got the button type. They told me it was good for holding but harder to feather like for a loader. It didn't work right with my old pressure plate but this year I redid the bearings on my engine, got a new pressure plate and put in button clutch. Have not used it a lot but it is a bit touchy. For what you are doing I think I would go with regular plate instead of button type.

I had to do a clutch job on the old H a few years ago and I took my parts right to the rebuilder and had mine redone,it cost me a whopping grand total of $90 for the clutch and pressure plate. I had to get a new throwout bearing from town. I used unique automotive rebuilders in Jonesburg,Mo.

IH used Auburn and Rockford clutches, don't know which is best, but I believe the Rockford may be better -- never heard of your work/show thing. I purchased a rebuilt clutch (Rockford) from Bates Corp for about $260 exchange a little over a year ago, far as I'm concerned it's as good as a new one.
