Does anyone have a good suggestion on the best way to remove a rusted-in-place steering wheel from my 354? I've tried soaking the connection with penetrating oil and putting loads of pressure on a puller fitted to the two tapped holes in the hub. Nothing moves!! Local tractor
parts place suggests eventually having to grind through the hub to get the old one off, then replacing with a new wheel. Really can't heat the connection; steel center is molded into the "plastic" covering that forms the external shape of the unit.

I removed mine on my 444 by removing the nut and soaking with PB Blaster for a couple of days then used grade 8 bolts and a puller and it came off ok.

If yours has hydrostatic steering do not beat on the shaft too much, those steering units are expensive.

After a lot of soaking with solvent, I finally got one loose by pouring boiling water over it. Maybe it was luck, but it seemed to expand it just enough.

Stew,

Have you tried lightly rapping the puller screw bolt with a hammer while it is under tension?

Pull up on the wheel to keep from damaging anything below.

Just an idea,

Allan
