Well I am starting to look for equipment pretty seriously. Saw a classified in the paper last night for a JD 1209 Haybine for $500. Am going to look at it tomorrow.

Just wanting a heads up as to what to be looking for and whether or not this is typically a pretty good reliable piece of equipment. I would like to hook it up to a tractor, but that is probably not possible.

Thanks,

Kirk

JD and NH make good rakes. I like the quick disconnect for the drive on the JD rakes. Haybines, NH are the best on the market in my opinion. NH balers are good. You just have to watch the drive gears on the inside. The 660, 688's are basically the same. There are a lot of JD balers out there but I have no opinion on them. Vermeer makes an awesome baler. I think it could be the best on the market. Just remember, when you look at used hay equipment, you are buying used. They are getting rid of it for basically two reasons. There is something wrong or something about to go wrong.

Buy a NewHolland hay rake, and haybine, and a John Deere baler

Yes, go with a JD baler.
