Rare Super M or M-TA Grill?

Today at an auction I saw a 1953 Super M with a funny grill. It looked like an M-TA grill, but was missing the holes in the grill, but it looked like a guy might put them in, since the spot was there. Is this a replacement grill that would fit on a M or Super M, or an M-TA if you drilled the holes? Is it a rare piece? Thanks.

I have a SMTA (60177) that was built on the first or second day of production. It has the holes. I have also seen the grill you speak of on a '53 SM.

I am guessing that the grill tooling was in place well before the change over on the production line. It would have been an easy alteration to stamp the new holes when the production line needed the SMTA grill.

On another matter, I have always wondered if New England received priority on new models. I also have a F400 with serial # 520. I assume that these tractors were shipped by rail and New England got the first train load.

My late '52 SM (and probably some '53 models) does not have the holes. It's the same as the grill on my '49 M except for the emblem at the top.
