Just a simple question for you guys. Is there a major difference between Hy-Guard that John Deere sells and the Hy-Tran of Case IH for IH tractors with TAs?

In a pinch is it all right to add 2-5 gallons of Hy-Guard if that is all you got?

Thanks guys.

I use hy-guard in my red (686,706,1066,5230 Maxxum) and green (2750,7810) tractors, have for years and never have had any hydraulic or transmission breakdowns. Much easier to have just one barrel and not have to worry about mixing it in the cylinders. Also my deere dealer is 10 miles away and sells it in bulk at a good price. The only difference I can tell in the oils is hy-tran is a little darker but they smell the same and meet the same goverment standards.

Dan: I had red and green tractors both, and did use the apropriate oil in each. However I probably had a dozen hydraulic cylinders with a blend in them, so I suspect the tractors did as well. I do know this, HyGuard will make hydraulic rams shine like nothing else.

Dan,

Don't know for sure; don't know if it is right or wrong, but there is a big ag outfit here that works on all makes & models of tractors and machinery.

Their hydraulic oil all comes out of the same barrel.

I guess I have wondered about this myself, I know several farmers who use both red and green tractors and regularly swap machinery from one tractor to another with no problems. Surely the two brands of hydraulic oil must be compatible, but I don't know for sure.

Whatever you use needs to be labeled MS1209 compliant.

I don't know for sure, but I can tell you that when the neighbor's kid came and got a bucket of hytran for their deere, he came back in about an hour to borrow a tractor because their hydraulic pumps went out.

Quite possibly the damage was already done before the hy-tran was added. Just a guess.

coulda been but we'll take time to run for a bucket of hytran over the chance of losing a pump. So will the neighbor go after hygaurd now, too.
