Will 85W-140 GL5 gear oil be ok in my trans/diff?

I serviced my 364 diesel trans/rear diff and was told to put 85W-140 GL5 gear oil in. I did it but now wonder if it was the right thing to do. A service manager at an IH dealership gave me the advice but I wonder if 80-90 would have been better or if it really matters at all? The fluid that came out had no water in it from condensation and everything looked fine, I just want my tractor to get the fluids it needs to last as long as possible. Thanks.

140 is a little stiff in the winter temps..... if you live in a mild year around temp. it will be OK.....If it is hard to shift gears, you could add a qt. or two of heating oil.....

Don, the tractor is run in the East Texas area and winter's are very mild. Rarely below freezing but the summers pound us with 100+ heat regularly. I bet it will be fine. I'm not worried about the hard shifting but was concerned about it doing a good job lubing all the gears and bearings and hurting my trans in the long run. The tractor will be run mostly in the summers so I feel ok about it now.
