After putting it off for far too long I am attempting to replace the o-rings in the touch control (control rod leaking). I removed the unit from the tractor and have it "belly up" on the bench. The problem is I have yet to be able to get the control rod out of the side that was leaking. I have the bracket which connects the control to the rockshafts, but there is another bracket which is attached by pin/cotter pin to the rod. Do these press in? or is mine just stuck. I loosened the allen head screw in the center of the control rod, but the pin will not come out. It does appear to be somewhat rusty, and I generously applied PB Blaster last night before giving up. Also, how many o-rings per valve? I thought only one, but there is a second groove I can see with no o-ring on it. I have been told this is an easy fix, but so far it has not been pleasant. Thanks in advance for any tips.

There were some Service Manuals put out for the Touch Control units plus Service Bulletins for specialised components.
I have the Serviceman's Handbook GSS-1024 and Service Training Course Handbook ET-95-MM which I am finding very handy while I am in the process of overhauling the Touch Control off my Super C. Besides the procedures for disassembly and reassembly there are also instructions for adjusting the stop clips, testing the unit, etc.

Just did mine over the weekend....after taking the allen head out, and the cotterpin, the pin should slip out..... rust is your problem.
There is only one O ring !

Gary: Did you have to remove the rock shafts to get the control valve(s) out? I was reading some previous posts and some remove the rockshaft assy in order to better access the control valves. After is soaks in PB Blaster today maybe I will have more success tonight. The pin is definetely frozen, and will not even turn in the valve rod. I am also afraid to use very much brute force for fear of damaging something.

FC,
I answered this.....this morning, but either I didn't hit the right button or it got lost somewhere.

I took my rock shafts off because I was renewing the o rings on the lift pistons too, so I really can't answer your question. I'm waiting on a new head gasket now to put it back together.
Good luck with getting your pin out!

Gary

Get the kit from Case-IH and replace everything while you have it off -- About $90. As to the control rods, once you have all the hadware off, they just pull out. The bigger ones (the two cylinders underneath) have a lot of suction, but they will come out. If you buy the kit, you will need to take the head off -- it will be stuck pretty good, removing it may make it easier to get the cylinders out, if you decide to go that far. There is nothing on the unit that is press fit, without going out and looking at mine, I don't remember the details, it's been a couple of years and my CRS is getting worse. I don't like things in the way, and took off the rockshaft before attempting any further disassembly. Basically, you may just have some corrosion. I also don't remember the number of O-rings, the kit will have everything you need, and covers more than one model.
