I was needing some help identifying a recent MTA or Super MTA purchased. Serial # 61877DS. Can anyone tell me the year model or where to find out year and Model? This tractor has hydraulics and power steering with a strong TA. No hood and an M hood is about 2 inches too short. Thanks for the help.

There isn't such a thing as a MTA- people just use less letters because Super MTA is a mouthfull sometimes.

The SMTA was only built in 1954. If you go to the left of this page and look under "Serial Numbers" you can find a list of serial numbers for the various tractors and the years that they were produced. You may need to check with a salvage yard to get the correct hood for it.

I have to wonder why a good SMTA would be missing it's hood? Maybe somebody crunched the hood on theirs and replaced it with the hood from this one? If you buy a new one be sure to watch that the ps is not rubbing a hole in it. Seems to be a common issue with a certain type of ps....can't for the life of me remember which type.

A Charlin will do that. I have a damaged hood from that application. I doubt if a Behlen will fit anyway. It wears at the near right angle crease where the bump up in the sheet metal starts.

A behlen will fit if you bash the inside tunnel out a little. I have a Super M LP that this has been done to.

I should also have a hood off a SMTA that had CharLynn that I think is OK.
