After investigating a strange noise in the tran. of my A I find the hub of the oil slinger gear is broke How can I get at this? from the front or the back? I never split a tractor, seen one split or know of anyone who did this. I'm a pretty fair mech.but this seems too much for me.This is the first tractor I have owned, got it last year I'm 63 years old Thanks you all, you have helped this old timer newby many a time. jimmy

I don't know much about your exact problem... but I do know about spliting a A ! If you are mechanically inclined I believe you can do the job. My advice would be to use a ton of common sense, chalk the wheels, think about how you are going to support the tractor when split and take your time ! Another good suggestion is to take pictures, get the manuals and start in a fairly clean work place where you can keep the parts organised and together. From my experience rebuilding the motor, everything was designed so you don't have to be a master mechanic to fix. I also relied heavily on this forum to answer any questions I had. Finally, I would suggest you have a hydraulic engine lift. The lift will definately save your back, or you helpers, but again use caution and common sense.

My 2 cents.

Brian.

The tractor will have to be split, the axle housings and differential removed, and all gears and shafts removed from the transmission inorder to change this gear. Not a fun thing to do.. I currently have the trans from my Super AV torn down to replace the trans gears and shafts.
