would like to know if there are any tricks to replaceing the sleeves and if there is a gasket for the top of the sleeves. I removed the old ones but did see any gasket but some of the books talk about one. Thanks Dan

If you do use a cylinder hone in the bore, make sure you use it lightly! The last thing you want is a loose fitting sleeve (it'll wind up in your crankcase). I'd suggest wiping each bore out with some sort of solvent cleaner (like acetone) and using the freezer method as above. Keep a block of wood on hand as they'll probably need a light tap to seat them home. Don't whack them too hard as described above (as I did it too), a rather expensive mistake. Good luck!

As some one else mentioned, It is worth the time to use a cylinder hone in the bore after the old sleeves are out. After you clean them up with the hone use solvent or brake cleaner and wipe them down inside to remove any dirt you broke loose with the hone. freeze them and some light tapping with a wood block will get them where they need to be.

Good luck

A trick that I use is to wrap each sleeve in a couple of layers of newspaper (individually) & put them in the deep freeze overnight. (The cold will shrink them slightly.) You take them out one at a time just before you want to put them in. Don't unwrap until you get to the shop. Usually they slide right down the hole. If you have to tap them, be REAL CAREFULL, cold steel is really brittle & don't even ask how I found this out. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

There is no gasket for the sleeves of the H. When I installed sleeves in my H, I ran a cylinder hone down the block just to clean it up some. I then cleaned the block very well, put a light coat of oil on the block cylinder walls and on the outside of the sleeves and pushed them into place. I did use a block across the top of the sleeves and drove them in carefully. I may have just gotten lucky but it went very well for me. Hope this helps.
