IH-504 Disc Brake Assembly Problem

Hi, I removed the right brake assembly to fix a "dragging" brake. That's fixed now, but I can't get the assembly back onto the spline because I can't seem to line up the out disc with the spline. I have the inner disc installed and am attempting to replace the actuator-outer disc-cover as one unit. Is there a better way? I don't think I can get the cover over the full assembly if it's already installed on the spline. Thanks, Matt

There are 2 ways, one is to keep working at it while moveing the brake assembly back and forth. It may take some time but eventally it will line up and slip on. No2 is to knock out the pressed in center cap in the brake drum and line up the disk from the outside as you slide it on then reinstall the cap. Good luck!

I just replaced the brake pads in my 504. I would recommend that you knock out the center cap in the brake housing cover, as Scott suggested. I had to hit it pretty hard to get it to come out, but once it is out you will easily be able to align the outer brake with the spline. Once everything is installed the center cap can be tapped back in with a hammer.

Good Luck. Carl

Thanks Scott and RCWilber, After posting the message I washed up, had dinner, then walked out to the field and tried it again...bang, it went on the first time. How many times do you have to learn to walk away from a problem for a while? I didn't realize the cover had a removable center cap, but that makes perfect sense and I will use that next time for sure. Best. Matt
