My 460 has a knocking noise either in the transmission, or in the rear end. It dosen't do it all of the time, just once and a while. Does anyone know what the problem may be? If so how could I fix?

Thanks in advance

Do you have a PTO implement on the tractor? My 460 makes an intermittent clunk when I have the snowblower running and no load. It's almost like gear play in the PTO/tranny area. Try disengaging the PTO and see if the clunk stops. I was told this was normal for the model of tractor.

The 460 does this when I am running the pto. It also does it once and a while while I'm just driving along in 4th gear.

Tell us a little more chief. If you are going down the road and it clicks or clunks once with every wheel rotation- it could be a bull gear. If noise is quicker- could be drive gears as in 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th. PTO will make a noise when it goes slack from being under load. ETC.- ETC.
