hello and thanks for any response.....I'm new here and have been reading and watching for quite some time on all the vavious sites and just recently got a 340 utility...gas... no need to look no more...I got what I got and would like to see it through..question...it has what they call a "tel-a-depth" valve? what is that? and how does it work? the bracket that holds the adjustment arm? in place is broken ....I think it can be welded .but the way the whole thing pivots down at the bottom and such with the up and down of the 3 pt arms is a mystery to me..maybe someone can explain it to me. I think that is all (broken bracket) that is wrong with it....also that other linkage that hangs down below and only attaches to the opposite arm?? what does that do? The way that I learn is by asking questions...and if these questions seem dumb.....well.....Forest Gump said " stupid is as stupid does" Someone has to ask the stupid questions so all the other dumbies can learn..... ....thnks again...ken

Someone told me one time "there are no stupid questions; just stupid people who ask questions."

:>

All smart-alecky answers aside, I was in the same boat more or less as you are now about 2 months ago trying to get some 460 hydraulics resolved. Thanks to the folks here, I got the problems noodled out.

I think (am speculating) the 340 U Fast-Hitch is likely the same as the 460 in theory.

The Tel-A-Depth (TADV for short) valve is the control valve you use to move the hitch up and down. The TADV gets its signal to shut off from the feedback linkage you are mentioning once the hitch height has been selected. Our 460's linkage was broken and was welded by the previous owner. For years it was unhooked. My brother reconnected it several years ago and the hydraulics (hitch height hunting up and down) smoothed out. Not entirely so, but the residual problems were elsewhere.

As for HOW it works...well...that is a mystery to me also. Let's just say IT DOES work. Our TADV has inside it a differential gear box that senses hitch position AND control valve lever position.

The rod linkage and TADV control differential gears MUST be in working order for everything to get along. Get a manual and then repair the linkage. You'll need to go thru a step-by-step process for the correct rod linkage adjustment. The I&T manual will do a good job of explaining this for you.

Keep us posted.

thanks for the imput..I was starting to take it personal that nobody would talk to me. I did order a manual and it's in the mail...I think you're right about the adjustment ...right now it goes all the way down or up and then puts a strain on the engine.. something is not right cuz while it's in motion the engine purrs....I'll be in touch and thanks..ken

If I close my eyes and let my mind wander back to 5 weeks ago on a Saturday... Geez, your response describes that moment to a tee! Couldn't get the hitch to settle down--engine purred when hitch moved--hunkered down when hitch stopped. The rod adjustment was performed properly, but we found the problem elswhere.

Keep us posted.

hello Joe..... just read your othe response and now I'm at this one.....I disconnected the valve linkage so that the valve that is in front of the shifter was.....I guess...in the neutral position and every thing was fine....no lift now but at least isolated the problem I think.....we'll learn as we go...ken
