I am a John Deere guy and feel kind of dumb asking this question. I was working on my grandpa's '48 cub yesterday and got it running perfectly at an idle but when you speed it up it's like the governor holds the throttle wide open and won't smooth out the engine. If you back it off and do it steps it will work until you get to fast idle and it does it again. It has a 60" mower on it. I know it's a little big but the tractor doesn't want to keep up with it even in short grass. It seems like the governor isn't working right. My Oliver dod this and it just needed the governor tightened up. I looked for the points yesterday and couldn't find them anywhere. Does the old cub even have points? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot.

Thanks for the info. I removed the cap and pulled the rotor off just enough to see that is was ran off a gear and thought I had better ask somebody before tearing into it. Would almost be the end of the world if grandpa couldn't mow with his cub. Thanks again and I will check out the other website.
