I noticed an International 686 is coming up on auction. Is the 686 a very good tractor? What things should I be looking for? What are the weak points on the tractor?

I had a 666 and later a686 diesel they are real good tractors, there is one thing i dont like about them and that is they are real noisy. So load that i know have a ringing in my left ear and its there for good. I now have a 656 gas and its much quiter but i also dont use it a lot .I do most of my work with a cab tractor now. Also if there ever was a loader on that tractor the shifter could show some wear, and that some times lets you get into 2 gears at once which doesnt work to good. Any way if you have any more questions just email me ok.

Great tractor. No real weak points. Built a little before the comfy-cab era.

A sharp low hour 666 gasser, wide front, fenders, 3pt, one hydrolic circut, brought $7000 at auction recently here. More than twice what I could afford and I really had no need of it.

Ed: Probably one of the better ones IH ever built. Very efficient tractors the 656, 666 and 686. Down side is block heater is a must in real cold weather. TA is still the type that free wheels on low side.
