It was a good weekend, I got my grandfathers old 39' M running after sitting for who knows how long. I have a problem though it seems that my throtle is very touchy. I move it just a little and its like I go for idle to almost full throtle. Would this be a problem with the govener or linkage out of adjustment? If it would be the govener how do I adjust this? The other question is it very easy to change the lower radiator hose were it goes into the radiator? It looks like it might be very tight to get this in place. Thanks Paul

I had the same symptoms with an C. Turns out the bearings were missing inside the governor, it would rev like crazy if you didn't keep your hand on the throttle. In the field I would be continually changing the setting. Drove me crazy for a year until I gave the governor an o/h. Now all is well.

Paul, I think big John is on the right track. If you have had the carb off you probably didn't get the tab and notch aligned on the carb and the governor shaft. This can sometimes take a little coaxing. As far as the radiator hose is concerned it is my recollection that it is easiest to take the radiator loose. This is pretty easy. Only four bolts I believe. If you take the radiator loose it would be an excellent time to take the radiator to a shop and have it cleaned and checked over. Consider replacing the fan belt at this time also. Much easier when you can work freely at it from all angles. You may need to call back in for some more advice if you get into that. The adjustable pulley can be a pain especially if it hasn't been moved in a really long time. Good luck with your grandpa's 39!!

If you had the carb off chances are that it is that you did not get the govenor shaft in correct when you put the carb back on. Redo your work and see if that doesn't fix it.

If this is not the case then you need to go into the govenor and clean it up good because that it more than likely where your problem is.

GOOD LUCK
