I have made 5 trips, about 300 miles worth od driving for me,over the last month to get a gasket that would fit.I wouldnt mind a bolt hole or two being off,but one was way too short, thought it was the wrong one but number was for H,one was too narrow, one didnt have NAY holes in it and one rear corner was off too,The other two were so far off I couldnt even fit them on the top close at all.Im heading to AutoZone for a tube of sealer for my caulking gun.....Thanks again Guys!

49 Cubber, the best solution is to buy a roll of gasket material and make your own. The method I use is to turn the deck upside down on two saw horses. I take the gear shift forks off and lay my gasket material on the upside down deck. I use a ball end of a ball pean hammer to rub over a couple of holes at each end. I then punch the holes out with a gasket punch kit. I ensert a couple of bolts in these hole to keep my gasket sheet in place. I then locate all the hole by the same method. Then I take the smooth hammer end and rub all along the inside edge of the trans cover. For the outside I use a lead pencil. After cutting and punching everything out it will fit like a glove plus save you some money.

What Fred said. The big three auto makers have used gasket-in-a-tube for years on rear end housings with no problems(the only gaskets I buy are head and manifold)

Cubber, I buy very few paper gaskets, as I find it as easy to make my own as to make the trip to the Case IH dealer. If you buy sheet gasket material, it is easy to make one by placing the material over the surface you plan to gasket. Then if it has dowell pin locaters, you can peen around them to set the material flat. Then I keep several sizes of ball bearings handy and place them over the bolt holes and one by one tap the ball bearing till the hole forms in the gasket. I then place a bolt in that hole a couple threads deep to hold everything in place and go all around and repeat the process for each bolt hole. once the bolt hole pattern is complete, tap the outside perimeter, then the inside perimeter to establish the contour then remove the gasket and cut out the contour, and "voila", the gasket is ready to apply what ever "Oozy Smoozy" you use and install. This should work fine for your transmission cover. YOu will have a large slug of gasket material from the center, but useable for some other time when you need a piece that size or smaller. I get a lot of mileage out of a roll of gasket material as I throw very little away. I keep several thicknesses on hand.

Bought one from Case-IH for my Super H last year, it fit perfectly, I don't understand the problem. I just gave the number from the parts book.

I have used the blue gasket sealer on the trans cover of several tractors and it works good. I have also used it a lot other places. If you clean the surfaces with lacquer thinner they will be free of grease and oil and it will stick very well. Put the sealer on and wait for it to dry a little, about 5 minutes and then put it together. You don't have to drown it just use a reasonable amount. Good luck with it.

cork gaskets shrink. you will be amazed how much they will grow if you soak them in the bathtub for a while.

True, except that the trans gaskets aren't cork.

Those gaskets are made from vellumoid, which will shrink. Heck all gasket materials will shrink, with the exception of steel, copper, and rubber. Even the asbestos gaskets shrink over time, and that is why steel/asbestos head gaskets shoud be soaked in water before installation. This is a common problem, and I have seen this with current gaskets from JD, CIH, Bush Hog, and Agco.

That's why I don't make my own gaskets, because I can never seem to duplicate the original material, and the ones I have made leaked. -- But I have replaced virtually all the gaskets on a Super H and C during the last couple of years, including two transmission gaskets, two head gaskets, and four gaskets between the rear case and the axles without a single problem as to fit. The C does have a slight drip from one rear axle gasket, probably my fault. I would guess that most of these gaskets don't sit around long enough to get much shrinkage because of the number of tractors, but I'm no expert, just that they have worked for me so far.

NC is 100% correct. Gasket material will shrink as it dries out, and that requires you to rehydrate the gaskets. you can do this by soaking them and then letting them dry back out, or they can be placed in a damp environment, and they will rehydrate (steam/hot shower).

I just use the red silicone sealer and it works well. I had the same problem with the purchased gasket not fitting for some reason.

When I closed my H back up I used the blue stuff for the belt pulley assembly. I forgot to order a gasket for it and have no patience. It's working fine so far.
