Couple more items for wobble in front end. make sure your tires are inflated even, A three rib tire will also help

There are several things to look at. 1. (up by the gagues) Is the half moon key in the steering shaft, is the key or keyways worn, is the shaft diameter worn where the u-joint clamps on, is the bolt tight that clamps the u-joint to the shaft and is the u-joint worn out?

2.When the steering shaft is turned right and left does it move in and out where it enters the bolster? If it does try tightening the plug on the front of the bolster and the castle nut on the end of the steering shaft under the plug. If these are tight the bearing may be worn. I priced a new one from IH and they wanted over $60. I think a #203 (one for the front of a delco alternator)will fit but is not a thrust type bearing. Don't know how long it would last.

3.The gear on the steering shaft or the bolster shaft could be worn. If you have a full circle gear on the bolster shaft it can be turned half a turn if it hasn't already been done.

4.The top and bottom bushings in the bolster might need replacing, the bolster shaft itself may need to be fixed or replaced.

5. Check the wheel bearings for tightness, tires for correct pressure and size(is one smaller than the other or is one worn a lot more than the other).

6. You can put a wedge plate between the bolster shaft and where the front axel bolts on if you can find one in a salvage yard. Don't know if anyone makes new ones anymore, it tilts the wheels back a few degrees and makes it track better.

Floppy steering is usually combination of things: worn worm and worm wheel, worn or out of adjustment bearing at the front of the worm, worn bushings in the fixed bolster – especially the upper one, slop in the steering shaft U-joint, etc. You’ll need to check/repair each one as required.

Also check to see that you put the lower bolster assembly onto the pivot shaft on the right way. The vertical leg of the casting should be angled slightly toward the REAR of the tractor. Also if there was a wedge-shaped spacer between the upper bolster pivot shaft and the lower bolster, make sure it’s installed with side marked “FRONT” facing the front of the tractor. (Note - The wedge spacer doesn’t show in my parts catalogs, but I’ve seen several lettered Farmalls – including my SH – with them)

My 43' H used to do that. It is caused by the worm gear assembly in the top of your bolester getting worn out. Try takinr the big gear out and flipping it over. If that does not work as it did not on mine I ended up putting some brass shims around the shaft then put the gear back on. This fixed mine. Good luck

Rotate the gear 180 degrees so you are using good teeth, replace the upper bolster bushing [IH dealer $22.00] replace the bushing on the steering shaft leaving the box [IH dealer $11.00]Make sure your bottom bolster is not on reversed, It should slope just a little to the rear.Just finished this process on a customers M worked fine
