Just bought a 300U, no powersteering, just 2 point quick hitch. The guy I bought it from said the old pump didn't work but filled the crankcase with hyd oil before it quit. He bought a pump and had the same problem. I tore apart the only control valve (side of tank) I have, and found a broken spring but still blew the seal on the pump. I can find no other hyd valves anywhere (pressure relief?). The control valve I have seems to be a closed center. There is no way to get fluid back to tank. Do I have the wrong valve?
Please help.

The pressure regulator is mounted between control valve & reservoir. If screen in it is stopped up, tractor engine will sound like it's "lugging" when control handle is in neutral position, when raising or lowering hitch it will sound normal. If this is the case, remove 4 bolts in front side of regulator & remove cover, being careful not to lose parts that could fall out.Underneath cover you will find a plug, remove it with a flat blade screwdriver. With plug removed, screen should be attached to it. If not, look into hole, I have seen them come off of plug & remain in regulator. Clean screen as best you can, hold plug up to light to see if it's stopped up, there's a tiny hole in center of plug. Can be unstopped with small drill bit or torch head cleaner. E-mail of I can be of more help!

I've got a 350U (same hydraulic system as 300U)with power steering and auxillary valves, so there's likely to be some differences, but I had a similier problem. There's a pencil shaped brass screen SOMEWHERE in that valve or oil resevoir. (Mine was in the power steering diverter valve)When that get's plugged, the pressure goes sky high. It blew out the service port on my steering valve, and it wasn't until I took it TOTALLY apart for repair did I find it. IH will sell you a new one, but I couldn't find anyone that could tell me where it went.

My parts manual lists a seperate "regulator & safety valve assembly" for tractors not equipped with power steering. It will look like another valve body, but with no handle or ports to attach hoses to. (It may be between your existing valve and the transmission cover, or possibly behind it in a seperate position) THe screen will be in there. If you DON"T have one on your tractor, you need one. I may have one around here, so email me if you need one. ibby458@yahoo.com.

THANKS GUYS. THERE IS NO OTHER VALVE ANYWHERE. I EVEN TOOK THE RESERVOIR LID OFF TO CHECK INSIDE. NOT AS DIRTY AS I EXPECTED. I WILL CHECK WITH A DEALER OR A BUDDY TO SEE IF WE CAN FIND A PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE. WHEN I TOOK OFF THE CONTROL VALVE IT DIDN'T SEEM LIKE IT HAD BEEN ON THERE VERY LONG.(CAME OFF EASY). SOMEONE MUST HAVE SCREWED UP AND THOUGHT THEY DIDN'T NEED IT. ANOTHER THING. WHEN I TOOK OFF THE PIPE MANIFOLD FROM THE PUMP I NOTICED A "BUTTON" ON THE RES. LID THAT MOVES IN MAYBE A 1/16" IN AND COMES OUT AGAINST THE MOUNTING FLANGE OF THE PIPING. WHATS UP WITH THAT? THANKS AGAIN. SIMO
