I had no juice this last winter with my disel 706, so i tested the battery and it was dead and was low on water. So yesterday I went and bought two new 6 volt battery's. I put them in and still no lights come on or power to start. I then took my light tester to see where I had juice at. And have it coming into the switch fine but the amp light won't come on and starter won't kick in. I checked the starter and solonid connections andalso battery's. Everything is tight! I don't know what to check next?? Also the fuse in the dash is ok. I would think that the switch maybe could be bad but my glowplug used to work even if the switch was not on and now that don't work either. Sorry but I don't have a manual for this so part of it is my fault, but I was curious if you guys might be able to steer me in the right direction. Should I change the switch anyway or check other wires?? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I know that you have a nice clean connection between the connector on the battery cables and the battery terminals, but one thing that is often overlooked is possible corrosion between the actual wire in your cable and the connecter. Corrosion will happen there and cause poor conductivity between the connector and the wire. If your battery cables are over 10 years old, replace them.

Double check your battery connections first. They should be connected in series- negitive cable of first battery connected to ground, positive cable of first battery connected to negitive terminal of second battery, positive cable of second battery connected to the heavy terminal on the soliniod. Don't overlook that your new batteries may need some charging. Now, do your headlights light up nice and bright? They should work fine regardless of the condition of the starting circut, assuming they worked before. At this point you should have 12 volts to one side of the key switch. When you turn on the key, you should see 12 volts at the other side of the switch. If not, it is very possible that the switch is bad. When everything is working correctly, with the key switch on you should have power to the AMP and OIL lights, the fuel guage, and to one side of the push-button starter switch. When you push the starter button, the power flows down to the clutch saftey switch underneath the platform. From there, power should flow to the soliniod "S" terminal, completing the circut. If any of these switches are bad, the engine will not turn over. One quick way to test for a bad switch is to bypass it by unhooking the two wires from it, and connecting a short piece of wire between them.

Do you have them hooked up as 12 volt or 6volt? Need to be 12volt. + hot to starter solonoid, - to + and -to ground.

They should be right since I never unhooked from starter. I took one out at a time and put the new ones in the same way. So I don't think this can be the problem but thank you for replying.

Well, if it's coming into the switch fine, but nothing is lighting up, that's a pretty good indication that it is not getting OUT of the switch fine...

I would continue tracing down the line. It's pretty unlikely that the key switch itself is the problem, and you can measure that by measuring the voltage on all the terminals. If the one from the battery is hot, but the one coming out is not, it's the switch. From there, trace the lead to the next component in the line, which is a relay and/or regulator. If you've got voltage coming in there, but not out, there's your problem.
