Hi guys, never thought anything would ever happen like this. We have got an A, My younger brother and i wanted to get it going today, So i got on the M, he got on the a and we towed it, It ran for about 5 seconds then she stopped. So I said to my brother, Get on the M and i'll see if i can keep er goin. I made sure i told him to let the clutch out slow to make the chain tighten up. Well, guess what happened, he was letting it out slow then he popped the clutch. I told him to let it out SLOWLY. So he towed me back up the laneway, then he said, Whats that oil from? I got of the tractor and there was a crack. You know where you put the oil in the M's and H's, Well the crack started by that spot on the A and went down to the pan. What happed was, the chain was around the tube at the front about a 4 in pipe where the tie rods hook on to. The block , steering box and the tube are all conected, so when he popped the clutch it yanked everything and made the block crack. So i figured out today that you cant teach a person to tow, even after many times of explaining it. So i will tow from now on. Now, can a block be welded? if not how much would an other one cost?
As a Friend of mine says. $H!! happens. This is Another learning thing!

Cutting down a dead tree once. We had a rope about 25 feet up attached to my buds pick-up. I notched it and just got the saw started on the back side when I somehow sensed motion in the tree trunk. I looked up real quick and saw that dead tree just a whippin back and forth, debris filling the air. I pulled the saw and took off runnin, no good, got hit real hard in the head with a limb, near knocked me out. My bud had gunned the truck and broke the rope. 10 stitches in me but we both learned a big lesson. Wear a hard hat if felling trees and make sure you and your buds are on the same page as to the game plan, ya know. I simply assumed he knew what he was doin to just tension that rope til I got clear. He and I had cut wood plenty of times. No assumptions from now on, we discuss all the details beforehand. No matter what were pullin on.

I had a similar screw-up this week. Towed my New Yorker. Tow strap slipped off the K-frame and the hook of the strap ripped the bottom tank and transmission lines out of the radiator. ;-(

Hang in there!!!

Ouch.

I've been known to yank the weight bracket off a Maxxum with a 1066 when my foot slipped off the clutch, but to yank a tractor in half... That's gotta hurt :(

Fortunatly I haven't done that yet, but certainly heard about it several times.

FWIW - on smaller tractors (Cub/A/B/C) I run a chain under the tractor back to the drawbar if it has to be towed. The C has a beefier front bolster, but still just the block holding it all together. I've heard so many horror stories that I don't even recommend a tow strap on the front of these tractors 'cause it leads to "Oh, go ahead a chain it just this once, I'll be careful"...
