How many of yall have had a bad experience with a 239 crank breaking? I've heard that this is not uncommon. It has happened to us. What is a good substitute for a 239 engine. Perkins? Continental?

I work at a IH construction dealer - I have not seen one break. You do have to watch if the crank has been turned as they had different wys of hardning the crank - depending on how it was hardned and how much it is turned it may need rehardning.

Hi Jimmy, my brother has a 684D with a German D239 and has over 6500 hrs without a problem but did have a broken ring on piston when it was still under waranty.
Uses for baling, plowing, disking and on a NH forage harvester, so it is not pampered. Nieghbor also had a 684D and no problem.

Maybe Bernard le Mecano will comment as there were thousands of 684Ds and 674Ds in Canada.

My 2 cents
JB

I've worked on eguipment for many years that used the D239 & DT239 and I didn't that crank breakage was a problem. I fact I've never seen one, (dozers, loaders, ag tractors backhoe loaders) I've put two in, but from being past grinding to an under size. Jim

I have a busted crank in a C-264 F400 parts tractor. I thought those cranks were industrutable.

Thats only the SECOND Crank from an M,SM,400,450 gas tractor I've ever heard of breaking. And I've been around a LOT of letter & early number series FARMALLS. "Never say Never" I guess.

This 239 was in a 260A backhoe and tore up. Was wondering if parts were still available for it.
