My friends dad went out lookin for plows last night while we had a 4-H meeting, he found a guy who has alot of plows, almost 300;drag plows horse plows and some other kind of plows for horses. All the drag plows hes got he wants $350, for each and it dont matter what condition its in. Some of these plows the moldboards are rotted out, the wires for handles are gone and some other stuff. Now, We have 4 plows, We bought a ih 2f for $200 in working condition, A case 2f for $40, we need to attach a point and handle wires then it ready to go, My brother got the massey for free in very good condition, I bought a 3f ih for 200 in working condition on rubber, And this guy wants $350 for Piece of Crap plows. I dont get it, The guy is 80 years old, Whats he goin to do with all thoise plows? I think hes got $$$$$ in his eyes, My friends dad said you can see the greed. He asked the old guy WHat will $100 buy, the guy said Not much. We went on a road trip to pick up our case plow, And we stopped buy a guys place who had about 8-10 old farmalls, There was a wk-40 and a big mccormick a 15-30 or something amd a f-12 h and some other old ones. Rotting away outside. He also has a Mogul 8-16 it runs, rare and nice not restored. Then i saw A MTA, ive bin lookin for one, I asked him how much, HE said, If I was the whole owner in these id sell em cause i aint going to restore them, My uncle and i are part owner, i want to sell and my uncle dosnt want to. The mta is in a old barn, some holes in the walls but its still sheltered. I dont want to affend any of the older guys on here, but some of the old guys are real greedy, some want to sell cause they want the money, and others sell cause they are getting older and know the younger generation could preserve it and use it, I plan on keeping my plows as long as i can. Dont it make you mad when guys let stuff rot cause they just want the money?

Sorry for such a long post.

I think the old guy has a good strategy with his plows. He charges $350 for any plow cause it's simple and there's people that will buy them. With just one price he don't have to try to figure out what to charge for this plow or that plow. He ain't got $350 in any of them so he makes money no matter what. And he don't really care to sell or need to sell anywy. $350 works for him. If he did have to sell he'd be changing his strategy shortly.

Farmallkid,
I think enough has been said about the plows and etc., but I'm glad to see a young fellow interested in old tractors and plows joining in on this forum and not out on my street corner selling drugs or "hot tractor or car parts".
Hang in here....roll with the punches and learn....you'll be a better man for it !

There is an old boy up the road like that. He has quite the collection of assorted treasures, or junk as his daughter calls them. The daughter threw a fit telling him he has to clean up the place. The guy is pushing 90 and is attached to his collection. So to make peace with the daughter he agrees to sell. She has no ideal what the stuff is worth. The prices he sits guarentee he can keep his stuff the rest of his life. I kinda respect the guy. I'm gonna do the same thing when I'm forced to sell my treasures I want to keep.

Yes, the man owns the equipment and is entitled to do what he wants with it. However, in some respects I have to agree with Farmallkid. Among the 300 plows there is possibly a few real antique machines, and he mentioned a WK40 and a 15-30 which I would consider to be rare. It is a shame to see them rotting away when there are people who would be real keen to get them running again. Wouldn't be so bad if they were under shelter.

Come on guys...give the Farmallkid a break!

He wants to buy them to use/restore them...other people would see all those plows and say "Man..I wonder what scrap is bringing these days?"

I've been in your shoes 'kid, just walk away and shake your head. Keep looking, there are plows out there...cheaper, and in better shape!

I always love...."I'm gonna restore that tractor when I get some time"....yeah sure..and you have been too busy for the last 35 years too...

Why do you care?? They're his plows. You need to work on your grammer and spelling and forget about the plows for a semester or two. Cmore

It's those like YOU S.O.B's who are making this hobby bad Cmore. What hell is it to you that there are grammer and spelling mistakes.

Rick,

Spelling and grammAr mistakes are an indication that people aren't to be taken as seriously. Some of us feel that if a writer won't spend the time to proof-read his own work, why should we bother to figure out what they are trying to say.

I don't hold people in very high regard who call others SOB's based on a brief statement either. Your idea of what may be making this hobby bad is just plain silly!

You ask why I think this hobby of tractors in getting bad? Greed is what is making this hobby turn bad, yes there is good and bad in every hobby. but antique tractors are becoming like that of the antique cars. It seems like every one is wanting more money for JUNK and trying to screw every one else.

The others are correct. There his. In your next to last line you said you would keep your plows as long as you could. Is not that what he is doing? As you get older and hopefully put a little money away you will find late in life that altho you are far from rich there is not a lot of things you need that you don't have already. A friend of mine is in his 80s and was offered a lot of money for 250 acres. He said " What would I do with the money?" As I get older I understand what he is saying.

Hi tommy. hows the c comin along? Youre right i did say i would keep them as long i could, what i should have said is I would keep them as long as i could use them. Some of the comments on here opened my mind a bit about this, I get it, its his plows, he can do what he wants.

Like the others have said, he owns them, and it's his call what becomes of them. His plows certainly aren't the only ones around, and you will just need to forget about them if you don't want to give him his price. I'd say if those plows were in that poor of a shape, you would probably have more money invested in them by the time you fixed them up than if you just kept your eyes open for what you want at a cheaper price, and trust me, you will find a nice set of plows before too long somewheres. Why do you need more plows for anyway if you already have 4 sets?. I know your calling it greed, but thats the old mans 401K, and I'm guessing thats probably about all he has for income, and if he sells them cheap, once they're gone, they're gone. I know it's really aggrivating to see something you really want rotting away, but thats life, and it happens all the time, you just have to learn to live with it, and enjoy the stuff you got.

I am sure alot of people here could give examples of what you are saying, and I definately could. Like Allan said, these people own it, and you don't, so there isn't really anything you can do about it. My thought is that I will probably have a chance to buy it cheaper at their estate sale... But in my case, it almost always seems that the junk man gets to these deals before the sale. Just keep on looking and you will find what you want in better shape and for cheaper.

Hi young man,

The plows and other equipment belong to him. He can do with them as he sees fit.
