I have a smta and I don't need the hydraulics to work just look good.I would also like to take out the top driven gear. Now the little springs that keep the pessure on the bearings against the gear,do I really need the put the springs back on the bearing side that I took the gear out of? Just thinking that I don't want to put pressue against the bearing that has no gear there.I'm also scared that the pressure with make the bearing bind with the gear.Any help is appreciated.

I agree with Randy, keep it together. You never know, you might find a plow that has hydraulics. Or some other implement.

My question would be: Why? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There is no harm in having the hydraulics working. By leaving the driven gear in place everything will work as it was designed to and you don't have to worry about the tractor eating itself. The thing to remember is that you probably are not going to be the last person to own this tractor. If at sometime in the future something should happen to you (let's hope that it doesn't) nobody will know why your hydraulics don't work. I potential buyer is going to take this into account. Plus things have a way of getting lost/misplaced once they are removed from something. Just my $0.02 worth.
