I have a NOS Charlynn unit I want to mount on my M. It has one inlet & one outlet port. So, I should be able to use any power steering pump from an older car or truck that has an inlet and outlet hose, run the two hoses to the Charlynn unit and have power steering. Am I on the right track? Any tips on this subject? Thanks for your help!

I mounted an older GM pump in the same spot as Farmer Bob (used his pics as guideline, thanks Bob). I held the pump in place and started fabricating brackets. I use the same belt for pump and alternator. I used an older pump so I had SAE, not metric fittings. I went to a hydraulic shop and got hoses made. To do it over I would probably get the steering motor mount from Steel Wheel Ranch. This replaces the current center steering shaft mount and gauge mount. Saw a pic and it looks good. Also may want to get the angled shim to set the steering motor at the right angle. It is a bit of work to get things in place, but well worth it.

I have mine mounted the same as Farmer Bob. I used his pic as a guide. The exception is for the front steering shaft. I have the cylindrical coupler only. I cut the steering shaft and had a keyway machined for the shaft coupler. I don't have the nipple coming off the steering motor. The other piece you may need is the hydraulic manifold. This is on the bottom of the steering motor in Bob's pic. This and the shaft coupler are Char-Lynn parts and can be gotten at any hydraulic shop that sells Char-Lynn, about $40.00 for both.

This pic shows the special plate for mounting the motor to the upper steering shaft support where the gauges mount as well.

John, I have a Char-lynn system running off of a belt driven pump. If you would like pics of it, shoot me an email. bbennett@tscnet.com

Thought maybe others could use the pic as well, here it is. After mounting the pump, I measured for a longer alternator/fan hub belt and installed it. There is just enough clearance to allow the hood to fit without any modifications.

Nice looking setup Farmer Bob. Can you remember what for pump you used? Did you use the same belt to run alt and power steering pump? I allready have mine changed to 12V. Was thinking I would have to add another pully for PS pump. Thanks for your reply!

I used the same belt to drive the alternator and the PS pump. I bought the pump and motor as a package deal along with the mounting brackets for both. Looking at the pump, I would think that a mid 70's Checy truck PS pump may work just fine. The bracket for the pump is bolted to the water pump housing and the upper front exhaust manifold stud.

I just finished mounting my pump on my MTA, I used a pump out of an old ford car. I can check the tag for the exact number if you like. It is mounted like Farmer Bob's. I did no modification to the tractor what so ever. Email me if you would like some pictures
