I'm looking at buying a '55 300 Farmall. It's been outside most of it's life which was obvious when I went to start it. When I push the lever forward (while rolling) for the TA it acts like a parking brake. How serious could this be? I am mechanically inclined but don't have the means to split the tractor. Tractor has a loader so I'm looking for a value to make an offer. I've had experience with Farmall and want to have one of my own! Please e-mail wldfftr@famvid.com with any info or suggestions. Thanks in advance for your gracious advice!

When the TA handle goes forward, it couples the motor and tranny together. If a gear has been selected and the foot clutch is engaged, the motor should turn over. It would seem this tractor motor is stuck.

Thanks for your reply Wardner. At the time of writing I was excited and hadn't driven the tractor more than 400 yards. I've since gone thru and greased and oiled everything thoroughly and hauled half dozen loads of manure with it. The old gal must have been stiff from sitting outside all winter, she's hummin' right along now. TA seems to work good now (and I know what I'm doing too!) Any idea on the value? It's severely weathered, needs new back rims and has a newer IH loader (white in color?). Also, where do I check/add hydraulic fluid?

Thanks again,
Schmidty
