I have an f-20 engine that was stuck and just got it free'd up this weekend. The question I have is what I should do next to bring this motor back into service. I am thinking that I will pull the pistons and hone it, but if I want to use the pistons again, what should I do to prep them? would you remove the rings and clean the grooves? How about the rod bearings, is there an acceptible spec for them to beable to reuse them. This engine will never be worked hard, it is going to go into a tractor that will just be for show. Thanks for any help you can give me Paul

kind of depends how bad it was stuch. the rings may be stuck in the groves. in that case you will want to pull the pistons and clean the groves. No reson not to put the rings back in if they look good unless you just like to spend $. I would pull the valves out of the head and clean them up. Make sure you put them back in the same hole.

Check the crank to see if the journals are out of round. More than 3 or 4 thousands-crank should be ground true. Rod brgs. have shim to readjust to 004"/.005" clearence. Hone cyls. & put in new rings. Pistons should not have more than about .005/.006" clearence to the sleeves.
