My nighbor farms with a International 1066. What do you guys think of this tractor? Good? Bad? From what I can tell, they were a NICE hydrostatic turbo diesel made in the '70s '80s? Our nighbor pulls what seems to be a near 20ft. wide tooth harrow(Is that what it is? It has spring teeth). When he harrows, it looks like he's ripping at well over 15 mph! SWEET!! I'd like to hear about this tractor! Thanks.

Hi 52H,

Yes, they are a really good tractor, although I've never been around a hydro model.

Your neighbor is probably pulling at 7 or 8 mph (4th gear), which is moving right along with a 20 ft. spring tooth.

Also, did you notice that he is not blowing any black smoke to speak of?

They were a nice generation of tractors.

Allan

Kinda grew up around a 1066. Now that I work in more modern, clean, quiet, airconditioned cabs, the old 66 seems like a clunker but the truth was that it did what we needed and grumbled very little. And it was fast on the road! I could outrun anyone in the neighborhood. Dad traded it for a 4630 and we sort of got hooked on power shift green machines after that, but I remember the 1066 fondly. Unfortunately, a year later the new owner was pulling a loaded stack mover on a highway, and turned left across traffic. A semi was passing him at the time and the collision split the tractor in two and killed the man.
