Dear Folks:

I recently purchased an old tractor with the remains of original decals that just had a small "C" that goes on the side tinwork. THe serial number was 166677. I could not find it on the "C" serial numbers. Could it be a "Super C". If so, how was that different from the earlier C models? And, was there no different markings for the Super C?

The Super C serial numbers were 6 digit (1xx,xxx), the plain C's were 5 digits. The Super C did have specific decals...people seem to use them interchangeably. Probably half or more of the "Super C"'s I see advertised are actually C's with SC decals. But then the Super C that I bought was advertised as a C.
The Super C had a bigger engine (123 cu. in. vs. the 113 in the C). The curved pedals and lower crank hole in the grill are the easiest visual cues to identifying a Super C. There were supposedly many other improvements in the castings that increased weight and improved strength. None visible that I'm aware of.
Good luck,
Bill

Way back in the day when my dad was a kid his dad had a c. The neighbor had a super c. Dad always had to go over and help put up hay. He said that you can tell a differance in power between the 2. The super c had more power and better equiped like the other posts say.

According to the letter series book by Guy Fay, that serial number would be for a 1953 Super C. I work on a friends Super C some,it does have hydraulics and a two point hitch, never worked on a regular C so I dont know what all the differences may be,someone on this board will know. Ed

The Super C will have disk brakes while the C will have band brakes. The brake pedals on the Super C are curved where the C's are straighter. The C has very little clearance between the gas tank and the hydraulic unit while the Super C will have about an inch or two of space. The Super C has a taller radiator so the grill is slightly different. Take a look in the Tractor Photos to the left of this page. The lower part of the grill down by the hole for the hand crank is distinctively different between them.
