Jim;

The last part of March I hauled in short steel and recieved $190/ton. The second load I missed cutting a couple of longer chunks and this turned out to be a $100 dollar mistake as the scrap yard gave me 5' price for th whole load at $156/ton. Word has it from my local welding shop that they have been hauling clean short steel directly to the steel mill approx. 60 miles from here and getting $250/ton. I wish it was not plantinng season or I would be hauling 75 years woth of junk!

cars got up to $60 a ton a month ago, now down to $45. short steel was $80, now less. it sounded like the upper midwest was getting more price than the northeast.

Yep, Prices are falling though. I took a couple of tons in last week, depending on what it was I averaged around $55 a ton, couple of years ago I go $7 a ton. Time to clean up the scrap pile!

i have been good personal friends with my junkman for over 20 years and we pretty much made a deal years ago,i give him all my scrap iron and i then pretty much take what i want,over the years iv'e got some great stuff .you should see the ih truck i got,1959 a160 all-wheel drive international purrs like a kitten.and just last week picked up a bunch of jd lawn tractor stuff.i think in the long run i make out better in the low price years and he makes out in the high price years.
