Tractors and chicken houses don't mix

I had noticed recently that the several old tractors and trucks that are parked in the field behind my brother's chicken houses seem to have deteriorated more than normal for even our Southeastern weather; rusting fast, chrome plating peeling off, etc. I realized that the dust from the chicken houses settles on the vehicles, then the great Georgia rains leach acid from the dust which accelerates the destruction of sheet metal. At least the 350 is still in good shape and it will, hopefully, soon be shedded at my house, awaiting restoration.

My Uncle raised chickens and I would swear every olt on his equipment was treated with loctite, just the fumes seemed to do it.

Brad, I done tole you and tole you not to be parkin the equipment that close to the hen house. And do get that 350 out of that environment. you're right about parking things too close to the chicken coop, but that goes for cow barns, and hog pens too. The chemicals will eat them before your eyes, or so it seems. Now parking inside the barn doesnt seem to have near the adverse effect as parking outside next to the barnyards. Another thing that is a life saver to equipment is a steam cleaner of power washer to keep the barnyard chemicals washed off. I work for a fertilizer distributorship during the planting season, and if not for the steam cleaner, the company would be replacing trucks, sprayers, spreaders, and Terra gators on a yearly basis as the fertilizers contain much of the same chemicals as does animal waste. YOu can watch things rust and corrode faster than it takes to make a pot of coffee.

Dust from hog barns is just as bad, don't leave a power tool overnight in one if you can help it as the wiring will croade like it had set in the rain for a month.
