Is there any way to test the coil inside of a magneto ? When I bought thet tractor the guy told me that the mag was not always reliable, so he added a coil and used it as a distributor, I tore It completely apart cleaned it up and replaced points and condensor, It is not mounted on the tractor yet, but being bench mounted I cant get it to produce a spark.

Good morning Jon: Is the trip mechanism working on the mag drive? It should "snap" and then the spark would be observed.
Coils can be tested for opens, grounds, & shorts with an ohmmeter.
Find an "old" mechanic that has a Merc-O-Tronic analyzer and test the coil & condenser to see if they work.
