I went to my local Case/IH stealership to get a axle to bolster pivot pin and bushings for my 2544. The bushings are $22.00 a piece and the pin was (brace yourself) $218.00. The pin is @ 1 5/8" diameter X @ 12" long. I will more than likely have to use a torch and cut mine out, so I am going to check on hardened steel shaft like I have gotten before to make dump truck/trailer hinge pins out of. I still think the bushings are too high also. Anyone with any ideas?? Thanks Kent

I contacted Bates about the pin, here is the reply. We do not have a used pin but we can get you a new one for $271.05. To order just give us a call at 800-248-2955. Kenny Bates Corporation

I guess I will be making one. Kent

I knew I could count on you guys to come up with some good ideas!! I guess I had my head in my tail and forgot I have a "recycle center" @ 1 mile from the house. I have seen shaft steel there before, I am a scrounger/packrat. I found some thick plate that I needed there and they traded me for the junk sheet metal I had. I emailed Bates with the IH part number of the pin, I didn't see it on their web site. I will look into Mcmaster Carr. You men are right it is not a high speed pivot, I have a friend that has a motorcycle shop and has a pretty good machine shop for bikes and maybe I can talk his machinist into making me one if all else fails. Thanks Kent

I am in the process of re-building the worn out old style wide front end on for my H. It needed all three bronze bushings for the tune of $29 each....I bought a 2 inch by 18 inches long shaft from the steel yard for $18. I figure that wasn't too bad, considering I got the WFE for free. If I had paid a bunch for it, I might have thought differently. Hopefully this weekend it will be standing on it's new feet!

drive the old one out and weld up the end that is wore and have a machine shop turn it down and fit it to your new bushings, if they are stock size bushing you may find them in Mcmaster carr or such places. this is no highspeed tight tolerance rig.

I took a look at Motion Industries and searched for Bronze Bushings and it came up with @10,000 items. I will give them a call. I think now is the time to deal with the pin and bushing while the tractor is split. I guess the price at the stealership ain't too bad after you consider steel prices and labor cost and ADVERTISING. I think my stealership sells pretty close to list because they had a price of $59.00 each for pistons for the C-200 gas engine. My machine shop that has shot me some pretty good prices sold them to me for $57.00 each. Kent

I would try a place like Bates supply. They have a web site and everything I have got from them fits. The front pivot pin on my 986 is 7" long and ~2" in diameter is about $55.00 from them. If you make one, I doubt it is hardened since it rides in a bushing. Just get a good quality steel. Something that is recommended for shafts would work fine. Good luck getting it out.

I have purchased bushings (not like yours) at motion industries. It is a bearing suppy house.
Don't know if they can help you but if bushings are not too special they might have what you need.

Another portion that was not included when thinking about the price of the part. How many do they sell per year. A large portion of parts sold are in this situation. Hopefully your dealer is selling at list. Some dealers have been known to push list up a little to make a couple extra dollars.

Brace again, in my IH434, the draft spool plunger, plunger guide and "C" clip kit that comes in a cigarette package sized bag is 254$.

Those are the components along with 120 more in the hydraulic control unit that coordinate the position control with the draft control. As a result, I said the heck with it and I modified my hydraulics for an external spool bypassing all the components. I don't have draft anymore, but neither do I have to spend 254$. The conversion cost me 180$.

For another brace, the hydraulic 1.5in X 6in suction filter and connecting 3/4in tube goes for 350$, so be very careful when you take your filter out. I glued mine togeather with JB weld.

The reason is CASE doesn't give a ^%^$ about IH, and it hopes someday it will die. Meanwhile it will gouge everyone for the last cent it can get. Good thing is there are a lot of jobber parts
that will give CASE a hard time, and a lot of guys that know how to improvise, that's good.

just another case of GOTCHA . Recently I was changing plow shares and noticed that it was also time for shins too. I had stocked up on plow parts at discount day at cih dealer I took shins out of box & said to myself boy these things look kind of thin about then I spied a NOS one on the shelf probabllly 6-8 yrs old. guess what the old one was definitly thicker AND when laid on their back side byside the old one had 3/8 of an inch more material on the leading edge! another case of new holland influence.

The pin does sound too high. by about $60. If you figure the pins has to be turned out of 2 inch stock, sent through the heat treatment process, then cylindrically ground to within tolerance. So figuring a couple of hours labor at $65 per hour, and about $25 for the steel, plus shipping and stocking costs. It shouldn't have cost any more than $160. I don't know what the bushing is made of, or how big it is, if it's made of bearing bronze, the material cost more than $22

65 per hour-must be a union shop. No wonder companies are sending these positions to out of country contractors. When the last job is gone you guys be sure to contact the union reps-who by that time have grown fat off slush funds and kickbacks.

I haven't been in a union shop since the 60's, but $65 shop rate is very common in the midwest, certainly not in the Northwest. Check what the shop rate is for your local auto repair shop, it's alot more than that, and their equipment is nothing compared to what a modern machine shop / mold making operation has to have in order to compete. I went out of business two years ago. All molds being built offshore are being built for the same cost as we had to pay for our out of pocket expenses, such as the steel, and mold bases. Thanks to a few greedy politicians who sold out this country for a few dollars in campaign funds from foreign countrys.
