Would just a light honing to the cylinders be foolish if I were to put the old rings back in? The rings look alright, the tractor sat for about 15 years causing the sleeves to get some minor flash rust on them, just a bit. Would like advice as I don't want to hone only to lose compression! I had the head rebuilt and have new the new head gasket so the top should be good for holding compression, just don't want to cause excess blow by through the rings. Thanks,
Aaron

How bad is the rust? I had some pretty harsh rust on my SM and we used a round wire brush on a drill. Didn't hone. Put the pistons and old rings back in. No blow by and runs like a spotted ape down the pull track.

A light honing to break the glaze would be a good idea but sure as the world someone will dissagree with us. I put lots of used rings back in.
