Morning All,

Have you guys been watching that 656 on ebay? Boy, seems like this old iron is getting expensive (well, it is to me anyway)!

How would you like to pour $2+ gasoline in that old gal with just a 2-point hitch?

I bumped it up to $4K, tryin' to find his reserve price, but thought I was getting too close to it; Hmmm, guess not!

I've seen them sell for $7 to $8K, but not a gas model.

Or, maybe I'm just gettin' old!

Allan

IH 656 S/N 501 is in my home town. It is a gasser with Pressed Steel wheels. The old boy bought it new from the dealer in Elgin, IA. Talked to him the other day and he said that when he put it in the shed for the first time, he drove in 1st gear because it seemed very big. He traded off of a Super M for the 656.

(S/N 501 is the first in the series)

Not sure where you are from, but in WI with the cold winters, gas tractors make great chore tractors, and good ones are in demand. If that 656 is as good as they say, with low hours, it's could bring $6000 or more. We have a 666 gas with like new Westendorf loader and about 3400 actual hours. We wouldn't let it go for 10K.

I stood and watched one like that sell several years ago for over 9500. It had never sat outside a night in it's life. Good ones are worth it!

Hi,

Yes, I realize that these are the most popular IH tractors ever and that this one has low hours.

But still, if you work 'em hard, you'll have to fill that gasser at noon or not make it to sundown. Whereas, the diesel will almost run for two days on a fill.

But, you're right, look at the number of hits on that dude! WOW! They want 'er pretty bad!

Its only at $5,001 now, in my area it's not uncommon to decent ones on a dealers' lot for $6,000. I would rather pay $1.65 per gallon to work that tractor in the field then the same price per gallon to drive some of those monsterous SUVs some are driving down the road.

And just what is wrong with driving an SUV?

Yep, I hear ya there. Guess we all look at things a little differently.

What's that old saying? One man's junk is another's gold?

It looks like a sweet little tractor, but I couldn't figure out why they didn't paint the insides of those rear rims (rear view). I think that for just a putz-around tractor, this would be a darned good one to have.

I still maintain however, that if you were to put 'er in the field to work, she's a gas guzzler. SUV owner or not. (grin)
