I have a late 40's H that I put a 3 point from a M on. I am thinking about picking up a 6 or 8 foot tiller for it. any thoughts or experince doing this?

The H low gear is too fast too work very well with a tiller. In sod or something hard, I don't think it would work at all. Maybe in soft gardens soil it would be OK. I use a 6 ft tiller on a Kubota 50 HP tractor. It has a creaper gear that is less than one MPH at PTO speed. That is what I use most all the time. Based on the power it takes, I would think a 6 ft would be a bit much for an H, even if you had the slow speed gear. Also, I've found multiple passes don't work very well. The second time over, the tractor tires compact the tilled soil back together creating clods that the tiller does not break up very well.

I run a 6 foot rototiller on the three point hitch of my Super H. I am not sure if an H would be able to handle it as it is a load for the Super H. I rototill in low gear and it does a good job. It works best to make two passes and then the ground is well pulverized. It would be nice to have a slower gear, but my rototiller turns at a high rpm and so seems to keep up with the ground speed of the tractor. Roger

It should handle a 5 footer okay, I ran one on a 300. IT worked great with a T.A. Unfortunately, I would think that the ground speed of the H would be too fast for the initial pass. Also it doesn't have live PTO.

Your H might have the Hp for say a 5 footer but I just won't go slow enough. Even if you H has the optional creeper 1st gear it just won't go slow enough at full throtle.
