I have a chance to buy a 48 H for $300. the transmision has some big problems. Several of the gears are severly damaged. The tractor runs like a top. I have an all fuel 43 H and could use a couple of the parts such as the head and manifold. The parts tractor is a factory gas X1 motor. Is there a call for parts off the tractor or is the rest of it just good for scrap? I hate to send a old Red tractor to the bone yard but what do you do? Any info comments welcome.

I agree with 26Red.The parts you need arent that expensive, and in most cases used parts are easily found. Now,if your in it for the long haul, and have the time and patience to part one out, then go for it.Lots of Hs still left.

I've got a '43 H w/bad motor, but rear end is good, as far as I know. Its in SE SD. I'd part with it for a reasonable price, or take the one you know of off someones hands-let me know if you are close. You know if you use the "new math" correctly, 1 + 1 = 1 & a whole bunch of parts. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

I am in central MI. The one I am thinking about buying runs good but looks bad. Sheet metal is very rough. The main reason I want it is for the gas head to put on my 43. The 43 was my grand fathers and once upon a time he rebuilt it with 30 over aircraft pistons. I would like to put the gas head and manifold on it for increased prefomance.

gears and bearings are cheap compared to a overhauled engine. Plus, two tractors are better than one...
