Occasionally I use the PTO to drive a pump for a water tank. Every time I get done, after disengaging the PTO, I get a small stream of milky gear oil from the belt drive PTO for a minute or two. I changed the gear oil last season so I am curious about why the oil is milky and why it is leaking. Any thoughts?

You can get rain water in the rear-end through the deck bolts. The have a tendency to leak in a small amount of water every time it rains. Especially if it sits outside.

Scotty pretty much nailed it on the head about the leaking around the pulley shaft. Mine does it a little. Just haven't taken the time to fix it, especially since I don't use the pto on this one. I replace the seal but it still leaks a little.

Farmhouse, I dont own a C but I believe that PTO belt pulley arrangement is very similar to my Super A. When you engage your PTO your getting gear lube up in the belt pulley drive housing. Your belt pulley seal is probablly shot. Also that seal rides on a steel bushing, and if there is a groove warn in that bushing you will have to change that also to get a good seal. As far as the milky color, you must have got some water in the transmission from condinsation or rain water. Hopes this helps.

In fact, if the retainer bushing or the belt pulley is not on the splined shaft, the bushing the seal rides on may be missing. That leaves a gap between the seal and the shaft so that any oil that gets up to the belt pulley gears will run out. Also my experience, it is nearly impossible to get these things to totally seal. Seems there is always at least a small leak.
