I tore apart my 560 to have the head redone. I noticed crakes in the the piston sleeves. I know what the next step is to remove and reinstall a new sleeve and piston kit. What causes the cracks, and where is this retainer ring or clip located in order to remove the sleeves. Also does this require and special tools like a slleve puller, etc. What are some other items to look at when doing this? Since I have to tore down this far what is a couple more dollar to fix now instead of later.

I have a set of sleeves if you can use them with your old pistons. Will sell very reasonable.

Bryan the sleeves in the 560 were a slip[ fit that is why they crak to remove just push they out clean the hole to get some of the rust out the lip of the sleeve may have shims to set sleeves all the height from deck. shouild check new sleeves for height then spray them with aluminum paint and push them in place the paint will help keed them from craking.

recently did motor job on my 560 d it is common for the sleeves to come loose probably what causes head gasket problems. I used locktite sleve retainer works well.
