Cub leaking oil??

My neighbor's Cub runs like a champ but today he asked about an oil leak he noticed when he got the tractor on a slope. The oil was coming out the inpsection port in the bell housing. I told him that it was likely the rear engine seal, but then I wondered if there's another seal from the transmission. What's the likely problem and can the seal be fixed by removing the pan or (as I suspect) will the case have to be split to get at the seal? He doesn't have a manual and mine is loaned out to a buddy in another county.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.
