I plowed a couple gardens yesterday with my 37 F20. First one was on fescue sod. Im pulling a #8 2-14 trip and the old F20 and plow does a good job even on that sod. Next garden was bare soil. Half way through the lift mechi. on the plow wont cycle. The plow starts to raise then the tire just slides and bounces along 20-30 ft before completeing lift. Ive had this plow several years and probly plowed 20 acres with out any problems. I know very little about working on these plows because it never needed fixing. Thanks for all inputs.

I have an old JD trip plow that my grandfather used and it has some metal "bands" bolted onto the holes and they look like factory. Some have fallen off over the years, but bet that was what was originally on your wheels. I know a blacksmith and want to take off one of the remaining ones and have him make me up some more one day. My Little Wonder has a piece of chain wrapped around the drive wheel. One wrap between each spoke then the ends bolted together. Looks like it has been there for most of its life. Works great. Thanks Bruce AND your Dad!

Rustys right on as far as cleaning but I know something else that works great for traction. In the wheel there are holes, put a number of bolts in those holes it sort of makes studs that bite in when the plow is lifting, my plow has them in the wheels and the same bolts have been there for more then 20 years

The first thing to do would be to remove the hub and lifting mechanism from the plow and clean it good. That hub is probably full of dirt, old hard grease, and who knows what else might be in there. Another thing, sometimes that land wheel just needs a little more traction, you might try installing a tire chain on that tire, it's an old trick that lots of farmers had to use.

Isn't that what was called "greasy soil" ? Up in shale soil when it gets just that little bit of dew on it ...Ziiiip. The neighbors plow when I was a kid had bolts sticking out of the wheel. I thought it looked real cool! Kinda looked like some prehistorical critter. Chains or bolts...it's gonna be fun going down the road! Jeff
