I have the opportunity to purchase a IH 660 for $2600. Motor needs work and the TA has problems. Tires and tin average. Question is it expensive to fix the TA. Would I be better to add a little money and get a good one? Have been looking for a while and most seem to have TA problems. Is the TA a problem with the 660? Thanks!!

All the early TAs are the same with only a few parts not interchangeable. 340 thru 660 nearly the same. It is hard to find an operational TA after 40-50 years. I have nine TA tractors and only one TA is a working original. My 660 TA was arc welded solid.

TAs run about $500. Labor is likely to be that much as well.

$2600 for a bad TA and motor work is too much. Don't jump on this tractor. You will find something better or cheaper within a couple of months if you are actively looking. Scrap value is around $600. Make an offer on this tractor for double that if you can drive it on your trailer.
