I read on a tractor club web site that there was an upgrade from Farmall that allowed F-12 owners to upgrade to an F-14. Anyone know if this is true, and what parts were included in the upgrade?

Thanks,

Joe Lee

The right version of the Parts Catalog lists the included parts. The main one I haven't seen mentioned yet is the higher compression cylinder head.

As far as I understand it, there were three "levels" of upgrade avbailable, all involving the same parts. The "level" just depended on who did the changeover. I understand that the factory was involved in changing the remaining 12's they had on the line when the 14 was introduced. Later, the 14 upgrade parts (steering post, governor spring, seat) were made avalable as a dealer kit. Both the factory and the dealer kits recieved new tags. Finally, all the above could be purchased by the owner and done at home or in the field, and a serial tag would not be issued. That's about as far as I thought about it. -Z-

Of the two Ive seen the differences were higher seat and brake controls, one had the foot brake attachment. The steering shaft had been changed, the governor was readjusted to increase RPMs and a new serial number tag was included in the kit.The numbers ranged from 155404 - 155902 were the tags for the change over kit, although it was probably done on some of the 12s before then as well.My great grandfather done his 12 uop with the higher seat, brakes and steering, but nothing els.Wish I still had that thing.

I don't know all that was included in the upgrade, but I'm sure two of them was the raised seat and steering wheel post and related parts to the steering shaft.
Hope this helps a little.

I think the govenors were different also I think thats where the extra horsepower came from. I know IH had some F14 serial numbers reserved for the upgrade.

My dad once told me that he worked on a guys F-12 and he was able to put super C pistons in it. One problem he faces was that the clearance was too close the first time he put the pistons in, so he turned them around and they worked. One word of advice, don't tighten the head down until you crank the motor over and see that the piston's won't hit the valves. Good Luck!!
