Once in a while I when I start up my 1466 the steering does not work, or the breaks. If I sit there and turn the wheel back and forth, sooner or later, it will catch and I'll get pressure and the steering and breaks will work. I believe pressure for the steering is from the transmission gear pump. I thought maybe it was loosing prime, (that's what it feels like), so I overfilled the hydraulic oil by two gallons, but it still does it once in a while.

Has anyone else had this problem? After it does this its fine until you shut it off and let it sit for awhile.

Paul

This is typical of a weak MCV pump (not the hitch pump). The MCV pump operates the steering, brakes, lube, and TA. A new pump and MCV rebuild will fix the problem. Two gallon overfill is not enough to cover the pump. I work on these tractors for a living and I see this sympton all the time.

RB,
Thanks, I'm a little ignorant here, when you say a new pump and a MCV rebuild, what is a MCV? Do you mean just rebuild or replace the pump, or is there something else I should also rebuild, like the MVC?

Sorry for the stupid questions and thanks for taking the time to answer.

Paul
