i bought a 656 at a aution to use for hay and general farming, my question, at 1/2 throttel or less it looses steering, ive done the obvious new hytran, new filter, new pump, what is my next step, the steering motor in the dash, or the flowdivider, i hate to spend more wasted money on new parts that dont fix it, thanks

The 656 series (544, 656, 666, 686) has what is known as a supercharge line. It is a line that sends the return oil from the hydraulics directly back to the filter and pump. There is a piece of rubber hose between the two sections of steel tubing that make up the supercharge line. This rubber hose is famous for leaking, causing slow hydraulic responce. You can see the rubber hose by removing the three-point hitch's top link bracket. Run the tractor, and you will be able to see any leakage.

On my 686 the suction line pulls in air and looses steering just like you described. Add 5 more gallons of Hytran and see if it fixes your problem

Please email me about some parts I have from a 544. I think I can save you some money.
