I am in the beginning process of painting my full set of culivators for my 1949 cub. I would appreciate any help in where I can find the correct color to paint them. I remember when I was a child on a farm in North Carolina, we had a 1949 cub and I think all the culivator arms were blue and the feet were red. I would really like to paint them there original color.
Thanks for any information.

JR I have bought some spring trip cultivators and you could still see a hint of the blue paint. So you are right in that the the tool bars and all the related hardware are blue. A good friend of mine knows Farmalls very well and told me that the color is called (Royal Blue)as far as I know all the implements for Farmalls are this color blue.

You didn't say which cultivator, but this should generally work:

Front universal mounting frames were red. Main tool bars were blue. Rear tool bars were blue. Rear lifting bar and lift rods were usually red but early ones may have been blue. Standards and spring teeth were black. Tool clamps were usually black but a few were blue. Shields were blue. Sweeps, and other earth working tips were unpainted and varnished.

Nomenclature was stenciled on the top of right front tool bar. McCormick or McCormick-Deering decals were on each universal mounting frame.

JR:

you basically got it all. The Cultivator is blue - precicely IH1150 Blue.

You can check it out under Paint, Decals and Other Finish ?'s at the Cub Manual Server at the link below. The paint chart will give you the cross references for different paint manufacturers and the Paint Committee Decisions are the last word on paint for IH Equipment.

I have the Cub-144 set with the spring teeth. Under the red you can see the 1150 blue on the arms and springs and the rest of the frame structure for the cultivator including the tool bars.

Hope this helps a bit
