My fan locked up. Looks like the shaft gauled. Probably got low on oil and got some grit in it. Its not in real bad shape but I'm wondering if its cheaper to replace the assembly or clean this one up. Anyone had any luck fixing them? Mine is a Schwitzer-Cummins type. Which type does yesterday's tractors sell? Are they any good?

A bushing won't help if the shaft is the problem, which it usually is. I made a new spindle, slightly oversized, and bored out the hub. Good as new. If you bush the hub, you will have to turn the spindle enough to clean it up without getting rid of the grooves for oil distribution. I originally bought one of the aftermarket fans, was disappointed in the quality and the fact that it was made in China so I decided to fix the original. See photo 4 at the link Link

CIH dealer carries them IMHO better than the orginal, sealed bearings. EXPENSIVE but less than $100. There are after market avaliable about these I don't know.

You can get a new sealed bearing one from Steel Wheel Ranch -- 785-548-7437. The original ones are no longer in production, far as I know. I have one and it works fine.
