there was a post about mice living in tractors. i have this problem. the nest doesnt seem to be overwhelming or used in a very long time. its not stuck on the ring gear, is it important for me to remove this, and do i really have to split my super C? can i just clean it out in some incredibly time consuming way? (i dont have splitting stands and no one i know does)

You can probably get the bulk of it out by using a shop-vac thru the throwout bearing grease zerk access hole in the bottom of the torque tube. I did that combined with blasts of air pressure. Air pressure to loosen it up, vacuum to suck it out. Biggest problem it will cause is all that stuff will fall in your face when you grease the throwout bearing. Not a problem if you never grease it.

There is a mouse-transmitted disease called Hantavirus -- resides in mouse poop, etc. Deadly if not caught early. Be careful.

Originally discovered in the New Mexico, Arizona area I believe. Now in Kansas, I don't know where else. Carried mostly by deer mice, not all species have the disease. Gives flu-like symptoms, when the Dr diagnoses the flu and sends you home, lungs fill up with fluid and you die (no joke). Have had a few deaths in this area. Drs are now checking more closely, but it has to be caught early.

I am not sure about the mouse disease , but the nest in the tourque tube will not cause you any mechanical problems. The nest and or mice in there does not stand a chance against that fly wheel !
